Kitchen door styles explained

What is a Shaker kitchen door?

A Shaker door has a flat centre panel set inside a plain square frame. It is the most popular traditional style because it suits both period and modern homes. Laker Kitchens has Shaker doors in the Essential, Signature and Premium collections, from vinyl-wrapped and MDF to solid ash.

What is the difference between Shaker and in-frame Shaker?

On a standard Shaker kitchen the doors sit on the front of the cabinets. On an in-frame kitchen each door sits inside a frame fixed to the cabinet front, so the frame shows around every door and drawer. In-frame looks more traditional and furniture-like, and costs more to make.

What is a J-Profile handleless kitchen?

A J-Profile door has a J-shaped groove shaped into its top or bottom edge, so you open it with your fingers instead of a handle. It gives a clean, modern look without the metal rail of an in-rail handleless kitchen.

What is an in-rail handleless kitchen?

An in-rail (or true handleless) kitchen has metal channels set between the doors and drawers. You reach into the channel to open them, so the door fronts stay completely plain.

What is the difference between gloss, matt and super matt doors?

Gloss doors reflect light and make a room feel brighter. Matt and super matt doors have a soft, low-sheen finish that hides fingerprints better and looks calmer. Both come in slab (completely flat) doors in the Essential collection.

Which collection should I choose?

Start with what you would like to spend. Essential covers vinyl-wrapped, painted Shaker and gloss or matt slab doors. Signature adds J-Profile handleless and solid wood Shaker. Premium adds in-frame Shaker, Outline handle cut-outs and in-rail handleless. Bespoke adds porcelain stone, grain-matched wood and Parapan acrylic doors, painted in-frame kitchens, wood engraving and outdoor kitchens. Price bands are a guide: your written quote depends on the whole design.
